Project Description
The Cross Border Angling Tourism Development Project
(CBATDP) was initiated in 2005, covering the border Counties of Leitrim and
Fermanagh. This project is part financed by the European Union through the
Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the Irish
Central Border Area Network (ICBAN) Partnership worth €300,000. The CBATDP is an
initiative of Leitrim County Council and is managed by a steering committee.
Project Launch
The Project Partners launched the IBCAN report in the Ramada Hotel, Drumshanbo,
Co Leitrim on Tuesday October 23rd. The report included an assessment of fish
stocks.
Main Report Findings
The report findings drew some interesting conclusions. Results included a
Fish stock survey, market research and campaign, and new and existing angling facilities were
installed and
upgraded.

Cross-Border Fishing Competition – Biggest in Ireland

The Waterways Ireland Pike Challenge, fished in Leitrim over last
weekend, had the biggest prize fund of any fishing competition ever held in
Ireland before – the winner of the event was Ken Whelan of Dublin with a fish of
10 kgs 500. In all €24,000 was distributed in prizes among the 180 anglers from
around the world who fished on two of Leitrim’s best known lakes over the
weekend – Lough Garadice near Ballinamore and Lough Boderg near Dromod.
