Project Findings

Fish Population survey findings:  The results of the fish population surveys did not demonstrate any  noticeable reduction in fish population within the project counties. Some changes may have taken place within the fish populations as a result of the introduction of the Zebra Mussel. In some of the fisheries surveyed there appears to be a shift to higher numbers of small perch and lower numbers of roach. Overall weights of fish available to coarse anglers remain high due to the presence of large roach within fish populations.

Market research and marketing campaign:  Market research was conducted to assess the views of anglers visiting the project counties. These results were fed in to the marketing campaign. The “Hooked” brand was devised to advertise the project counties. A series of advertisements were run to promote the project counties in Angling Literature. Angling trade and tourism shows across Europe were also attended to promote the project counties.

Infrastructure development :  A number of fisheries had infrastructural works carried out as part of the project. Angling facilities were either upgraded or new structures installed, improving access to water. A number of facilities with access for anglers with disabilities were constructed.
